Ball behind the genius of "Six Feet Under" (best. Tv. Drama. Ever.) and
"True Blood" (meh.)
This film treats the coming-of-age of a Lebanese American girl with
brutal, heartbreaking honesty. As much honesty as The Squid and The
Whale and Fast Times At Ridgemont High (minus the comedic relief).
It's brutally honest to the point where it's uncomfortable to watch.
You'll never look at Aaron Eckhart the same way again. His performance
here is disturbing and brilliant.
The honesty in the plot is that the adults around Jasira, the main
character, seem to be just as bad as she is at making mature decisions.
And all your decisions have consequences. They all learn from each
others terrible, terrible mistakes. And Jasira is stronger for it.
If you loved "Six Feet Under", you'll love this movie. Not only because
you get to see Claire's pretentious art professor being an entirely
different kind of douchebag. The moral and sexual topics will leave you
cringing and ready for discussion (must watch with a good friend).
Especially if you can remember what it was like to be a 13 year old
girl.

I don't care for "True Blood"
I don't care for it either, but I can see why people like it. I rarely share my thoughts on TV shows because I don't care for most of what's popular. LOST is another one that I just don't understand the hype. Same goes for 24, Big Love, Weeds, CSI, NCIS, House, The Closer, Damages, and most of all, Law & Order.
To clarify: I feel the characters in "True Blood" are poorly written and the dialogue is sometimes cringe-worthy. My husband loves the show, but I told him he has to watch it when I'm not home because if I hear one more actor growling, but lisping from fake teeth that make them sound like a pissed off teenager with a retainer, say "vampire" like it has 4 syllables in it I'll lose my mind.

Please make a "movies you should watch" list. It should be pretty long. You may add and delete to your heart's content. They need be in no particular order, but you may group them and write short notes beside each title if you wish. You should post this list as an independent page on your blog (accessible on your blogger dashboard by going to "posting" and then "edit pages").

I sort of started this blog as a way of recommending or not recommending movies to watch. I do like the idea of a list. People request such lists from me frequently. I fund that just giving people the titles of movies falls short of a good recommendation. I want you to know why I think you should see the movie so that you can know what you're in for. I recommend "The Seventh Seal" even though I think that it can certainly tax one's attention span because it 's a landmark film. I recommend "Dancer in the Dark" but I warn you that you'll be slightly traumatized and devoid of joy for a day or two because of it. Because I know that not all movies appeal to all people, and so I feel that simple lists are lacking in the justification/explanation department. I will try and create a few lists and try to catergorize movies, by genre at least.
I will try.
